Barbara Ruiz, born on March 27, 1976, has always been compared to the legendary Celia Cruz for her warm voice, stage presence and natural charisma that characterizes her personality. She is able to masterfully blend musical genres such as jazz, salsa, merengue, rumba, guaracha and many other styles.
She debuted as part of the choir of her native, Camaguey, and thanks to her outstanding work was called to join several well-known Cuban bands such as "Charanga 86," "Maravillas de Florida, Las Chicas del Sol", "Las chicas del Sabor `` La banda meteoro and Orchestra "Ritmo Oriental".
In 1995 Barbara won the semifinal national contest "MI SALSA buscando el sonero " of the National Cuban TV, who were looking for a sonero, accompanied by the Orchestra "Las hermanas Nuviola", thus acquiring a commercial contract with HTVcomercial.
In 1995 she performed at the Casino of Montreal and the following year was based on Canadian women's Orchestra "Barbara & The Amazonas"
In 1998 she formed her new band "Barbara & Son Cuba " performing all over Quebec and USA.
In 1999 Barbara won the Festival de la cancion Latino-Americana de Canada .
In 2000, Barbara commercial launched her first album entitled "Against all odds", where she composed 10 of the 12 tracks included on the CD. The album was well received by the public and the press by selling 50 000 copies in the first run.
In 2002, she is named best singer of the year at the Gala "Stars Latina Canada", held in the Great Casino of Montreal.
In 2004 she shared the stage as a guest in MalagaSpain with "El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico".
Since then she not stopped touring until 2005, when Barbara was fortunate to be invited to record an All-Star in New York with the "Orchestra Son Boricua,Estrellas Cobo", Jimmy Sabater, Jose Mangual, Lucho Cueto and Alfredo de la Fe, Chocolate Armenteros, Manny Oquendo, Eddie Montalvo, Juan Pablo Torres, Puppy Legarreta among others.
Since then Barbara has toured USA, Europe and the Caribbean, performing in countries such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, France, Italy and others.
In 2010 she released " Ella Llegó a la Fiesta ", produced by famed musican Jesus Alejandro Perez, alias the child, a first class sonero disc, this album has been widely recognized in the market.
Enter 2011 and the diva has just launched, her new production "La Cubanisima",
recorded at Zafiro studios & Mototan records Panama, F101 Music New York, Creason studios & Only Hit Records Canada.
An album nuanced with colors, flavors and Cuban idiosyncrasy, it is the perfect marriage between the singer and dancer, bringing a bite of everything: bachata, merengue, bolero, jazz, reggaeton, Cha Cha Cha and above all; salsa brava!
The album is full of nuances and was recorded in part with the renowned Zafiro Panama Orchestra, arranged by Jorge Luis Castillo musical director of Oro Negro orchestra, was also arranged by Osiris Martínez, ex-keyboardist of Manolito Simonet and "Pupy y los que son," this recording was made in New York, with the participation of singer Jose Pepe Gomez, Canada,Venezuela & Panama.
Part of the mastering was done at Thony Records Venezuela by Anthony Ramon Rondon Rosal,and the famous Abbey Road Studio, mixed by George Peche, who mixes Lady Gaga ,Snoop Dog, Kelly Minogue albums among others.
Barbara has come to collaborate and share in one way or another, on disk and scene, with Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, Mayito Rivera, Plana & orchestra, Aymé Nuviola, Haila María Montpie, Bamboleo, Ricardo Lemvo, the Great Combo of Puerto Rico, Osiris Martinez and Jose Pepe Gomez, Dogmatique, Papo Ross, René Lazaro, Ricardo Lemvo,Joaquin Diaz, Carlos Pleaseres, Yoel Diaz, Qbanito, Giovanny Arteaga, Alejandro de Armas, Jesus Alejandro Perez, alias the child,Azuquita Camilo, Rafael Zaldívar, Adam Bonne God, Lucho Cueto, Jose Mangual Jimmy Sabater, Alfredo de la Fe, Charly de Cali, Niche, Mike Fahie, Ralph Irrizari, Alex Bellegarde, Edwin Bonilla, Leonel Limonta and Azúcar Negra etc.
Barbara begins to captivate the media with the single Mi Carnaval, Soy mala and Farandulero, she hit the hit parade of Latin Beat magazine, the magazine of global tropical music in the USA and Colombia.
